SYJO2 is the most recent addition to the SYJO Trust family, formed in response to the growing demand from young musicians for professional jazz training and performance opportunities.
SYJO2 is a training ground for SYJO, for the National Youth Jazz Orchestras of Scotland Jazz Orchestra, Tommy Smith Youth Jazz Orchestra and university and conservatoire jazz entry. SYJO2 gives young musicians who already have some jazz experience the opportunity to develop improvisation and reading skills and to perform in high profile settings.
Meetings take place fortnightly at the University of Strathclyde.
Applications are welcome at any time, though it is always best to apply before or at the beginning of the school/student year. SYJO2 members tend to be playing their instrument at least at around Grade 5, preferably a bit further on. Previous experience of jazz and improvising is also preferred - but not essential if you are keen and can read very well.
